Lasers Used at Lumina
Whether you’re considering laser hair removal, skin rejuvenation, or pigmentation correction, Sciton and Aerolase offer some of the most advanced laser technologies available today. Below are answers to some frequently asked questions to help you better understand these treatments.
Sciton®
Sciton is one of the world’s leading companies that develops light-based devices for medical and cosmetic applications. These devices include lasers and broadband light (BBL) devices. Broadband light devices are also called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL).
Lumina uses Sciton’s non-invasive lasers, including Forever Clear BBL, Forever Bare BBL, BBL HERO, and MOXI.
mJoule is Sciton’s FDA-approved platform that forms the skeleton upon which new devices are developed. The platform development process ensures the highest degree of safety and effectiveness when rolling out new products.

What is BBL HERO, and how is it different from regular IPL and lasers?
BBL Hero (BroadBand Light High Energy Rapid Output) is an advanced form of IPL (intense pulsed light) that delivers more energy, faster treatments, and better skin rejuvenation compared to traditional IPL and laser devices. Lasers use a narrowly focused wavelength on the light spectrum. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light, hence the name broadband light. BBL HERO treats hyperpigmentation, redness, sun damage, and aging skin while stimulating collagen production for long-term anti-aging benefits.
What are the benefits of BBL (broadband light) treatment?
Corrects damaged skin (photo-rejuvenation)
- Reduces fine lines in the skin
- Tightens the skin
- Reduces age spots
- Repairs damage from the sun
- Reduces scarring
Maintains healthy skin
- Boosts collagen and elastin production
Delays aging of the skin
- Skin cells behave like those of a younger person
What is MOXI?
MOXI is a gentle fractionated laser designed to effectively treat the visible signs of aging and produce evenly toned, radiant skin in as little as a single treatment. Ideal for all skin types who are just beginning their skin care journey or those looking for a light resurfacing option that can be performed anytime of year. When combined with BBL HERO, this dynamic duo provides patients with even better results. MOXI can even be used for prejuvenation, meaning it helps maintain youthful skin before deeps signs of aging develop.
What can be treated with BBL HERO and MOXI?
BBL HERO is excellent for:
- Sun damage and hyperpigmentation
- Age spots and freckles
- Rosacea and redness
- Acne and acne scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Spider veins
- Cherry angiomas
- Hair removal
MOXI is great for treating:
- Melasma and hyperpigmentation
- Sunspots
- Age spots
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Uneven skin tone
What is the downtime after a BBL HERO or MOXI treatment?
BBL Hero has little to no downtime, with most patients experiencing mild redness that fades within a few hours. MOXI may cause slight redness and a sandpaper-like texture for a few days, but nothing that disrupts daily activities. Always wear sunscreen and avoid the sun as much as possible for a few days. Makeup can be applied 24 hours after treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Your individual treatment plan will depend on your unique skin and treatment goals. We generally recommend 1-3 initial treatment sessions for the BBL HERO body treatments and 3-4 initial treatment sessions for MOXI laser resurfacing of the face. Results should become visible in 2-4 weeks after both BBL HERO & MOXI sessions.
Aerolase®
Aerolase is an advanced laser system designed to treat a variety of skin concerns, including acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and hair removal. Unlike traditional lasers, Aerolase is gentle, safe for all skin types, and virtually painless.

What is Aerolase Neo Elite, and how is it different from traditional laser treatments?
Aerolase uses a unique 650-microsecond pulse duration, meaning it delivers energy quickly without overheating the skin and prevents pigmentation risks. This makes it virtually painless, safe for all skin tones, and ideal for treating acne, rosacea, pigmentation, and hair removal without the side effects of traditional lasers.
Is Aerolase safe for dark skin tones?
Yes! Aerolase is one of the safest lasers for darker skin tones because it targets deep into the skin without affecting the surrounding melanin. This greatly reduces the risk of burns, hyperpigmentation, or scarring that some traditional lasers can cause.
What can be treated with Aerolase?
Aerolase is a versatile laser that treats:
- Acne (by killing bacteria and reducing oil production)
- Rosacea and redness (by gently shrinking blood vessels)
- Hyperpigmentation and melasma (without overheating the skin)
- Fine lines and skin laxity (by stimulating collagen production)
- Hair removal (for smaller, more sensitive areas)
What is the downtime after an Aerolase treatment?
There is no downtime with Aerolase laser treatment. This non-invasive procedure has minimal side effects and will not leave you with prolonged skin redness. You are free to resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. Be sure to wear sunblock and avoid direct sunlight, as is necessary after any laser treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Most people who receive Aerolase laser treatments see noticeable results after 3 treatments, and skin quality is enhanced with each subsequent session. Most people need 4-6 treatments to achieve optimal results. As the skin continues to age, you may need additional touchup treatments in the future. This treatment plan will be individualized based off your consultation.
