Frequently Asked Questions

Cost/Payment

How much does a consultation cost?

All of our consultations are offered either virtually or in-office at no cost.

Laser treatments are personal and must be customized for your situation and goals. Schedule your free virtual or in-person consultation, where we will discuss your condition, the number of sessions needed, and the total cost to help you achieve your skin goals.

We cannot accept insurance at this time. However, we can provide a Superbill that includes a CPT and ICD-10 code. You can submit the Superbill to your insurance company for reimbursement, which may be possible depending on your plan.

Referrals can also be made for diagnostic testing at your preferred location. Please ask that lab to get prior authorization and bill your insurance directly.

We accept all major debit and credit cards.

A credit card will be required to schedule your appointment. No charges will be made until after your service is complete.

If you need any diagnostic tests that require insurance pre-authorization, this will be billed to you at $50/hour. Some insurance companies have a quick prior authorization process and others can take up to 3-4 hours.

We kindly request a minimum of 24 hours notice for any appointment changes or cancellations. When you cancel with little or no notice, we are unable to offer that time to other clients who are on our waitlist, and it directly impacts our ability to provide care and maintain a sustainable business.

If you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours of your appointment — or fail to show up — you will be charged the full cost of the scheduled service.

For consultations or neuromodulator (Xeomin/Botox) appointments, a $100 fee will apply for late cancellations or no-shows.

We truly value your business and appreciate your understanding as we work to provide the best care for all of our clients.

Your satisfaction is our top priority, and our pricing structure eliminates the need for gratuities. What we appreciate most is your return business — re-book or schedule a new service before leaving, refer your friends and family, or leave us a Google review!

Thank you for choosing Lumina!

Vascular Treatments

I have swelling in one or more body parts. How can you help?

Sarah Whitehead, the founder of Lumina, is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner whose specialty is diagnosing venous edema, lymphedema, and lipedema. Schedule a virtual consultation, where Sarah will order diagnostic tests, make referrals, and prescribe products to put you on the path to recovery.

Most clients with vascular concerns need only one appointment. During your consultation, you may receive referrals for diagnostic tests and follow-up care, as well as prescriptions for compression, lymphatic drainage, and other products.

A follow-up phone call is sometimes needed to go over any test results and discuss the management plan for your condition. There is no added cost for this call.

A virtual consultation typically takes about 45 minutes. This includes ordering any diagnostic testing and making referrals for therapy, as well as providing prescriptions.

A 15-minute follow-up phone call is sometimes needed to go over any test results and discuss your management plan.

Vascular health is a complex medical condition that requires a thorough discussion about your daily symptoms, family history, and medical history. We do this over a virtual visit that also includes a quick review of the anatomy and physiology of our vascular system. Everything discussed is to help you understand our recommended diagnostic testing plan and treatment plan.

Please wear shorts and a tank top so that we can see your feet, legs, and arms.

No, we do not provide surgical care. As a board-certified vascular medicine provider, Sarah Whitehead’s role is to help you achieve an accurate diagnosis, so you can move forward with either surgical or nonsurgical care as needed. After making a diagnosis, she will refer you to providers who can offer whatever services and support you need.

Yes, we can provide a letter of medical necessity or insurance appeal letter within one year of your virtual consultation. The cost is $50 per written letter.

We understand that cost can be a barrier, and you’re not alone. Your health is important, so it’s imperative you don’t put off diagnosis and treatment. If you’re unable to afford treatment right now, we encourage you to start by talking with your primary care provider, who may be able to refer you to other providers who accept your insurance.

Treatment times vary for each person, and depends on your current condition and skin goals.

The number of laser treatments needed will vary depending on your goals. Schedule a free virtual or in-person consultation to discuss your condition, the number of sessions needed, and the total cost of treatment.

Or, if you prefer, at your first treatment session we will develop a care plan together that will include a clear understanding of how many sessions you’ll need to achieve your goals. You won’t be charged a penny unless you are in agreement with that plan.

Most people find that the lasers we use are not painful. That said, each person is unique, and if you find that a treatment is painful, we can stop at any time or adjust the settings. We can also provide numbing cream and cold gel packs to help with any discomfort.

Each type of laser treatment requires special management. Pre- and post-care instructions will be provided for you to follow to minimize any potential side effects.

After scheduling your first appointment, you will receive an email containing all before and after care instructions for your treatment. Please review these documents as soon as possible to ensure you do not have any condition that would prevent you from proceeding with the planned treatment. Avoid the sun as much as possible before and after treatment.

For skin care consultations, please refrain from wearing any makeup so we can make an accurate assessment.
